Lay in the open
in front of God
in front of the State
it is safe here not hiding
sleeping in the open
on the street
in front of God

Their things...their stuff is so
important...alone without anything and swirling around the
drain on the wrong
side of rock bottom...I need a
basket to put my scraps
in...a cart to push my bags and
blankets around in...
a bag to carry my life...for I
am a bag lady
You like to shop too don't you?
Have things? Even
here in the street she said...I
want my things with me. |

Well you've cracked the sky, scrapers fill the air.
But will you keep on building higher
'til there's no more room up there?
Will you make us laugh, will you make us cry?
Will you tell us when to live, will you tell us when to die?
I know we've come a long way,
We're changing day to day,
But tell me, where do the children play?

Crackdown Demanded on Skid Row Camps
A group of downtown Los Angeles civic leaders and residents
on Monday said the growing homeless
population on skid row is a public health and safety CATASTROPHE and
proposed that the city
enact an anti-encampment ordinance and other measures to improve conditions...the
number of
homeless living in SQUALOR on downtown streets--many with severe mental
illnesses and addictions
--has reached CRISIS PROPORTIONS and is threatening downtown's economic
revitalization.
We see figures that run from 15,000 to 30,000 homeless live on the 50
square blocks of downtown's
skid row.
